Who am I?

I’m Sophie Frederiksen and I live in Denmark, Europe. I’m currently 15 years old, and I attend elementary school, as it is called in Danish. I’ll be finished with school at the beginning of next summer, and then I’ll be off to USA for a year. I’m counting the days!
My interests are writing, music, running, hanging out with my friends and meeting new people. I like to always be doing something, instead of just sitting around and do nothing

When did you decide to go on an exchange and why?

It’s hard to say exactly when I decided that I wanted to go, but I guess it was my trip to the United States last year that triggered my sense of adventure. When I was a child, my family and I traveled around a lot in Europe. I believe this to be the cause of my big interest in the cultures of other countries. When we for the first time visited USA in 2008, it was the first country outside of Europe that we had traveled to. Upon leaving the country to go back home, I couldn’t help wishing that I’d come back sometime soon. When we got home, I came to realize that the time we had spent in USA had become the best time of my life. Therefore, when I was introduced to the concept “exchange student”, there was no doubt in my mind: it was what I wanted to do!

You are going to USA. What made you chose USA?

Again, I’m going to mention my trip to USA in 2008. It made me love the country, no matter how many negative things people have to say about it – and believe me, I’ve heard from my friends! But even so, I still feel like I belong there – and yes, I’m perfectly aware that I’m a Dane and not an American. But still, I get something not far from an adrenaline kick out of being over there.

What is your biggest fear with your upcoming exchange year?

To have something go wrong on my departure. But the worst would be if something bad happened to my family or my friends while I was gone.

Never be afraid to grab the chance while you can– you can always sulk afterwards, if things didn’t go as planned. As long as you’re not sulking because you didn’t grab the chance! ;D
Oh well, what I’m trying to say is, that if you want to do something, DO IT! Then you won’t have regrets later in your life (:
