Etudiant Libre (Free Student)

Question asked by Alana Megan Augart on Mar 5th

Description:

At school in Belgium, I am considered to be a free student... Can someone please tell me exactly what this means? There's a marked difference between how I'm treated and how the normal students are treated (I'm largely ignored), but I'm not sure exactly how it works.

Merci,

Alana

Hi Alana,
I’m sorry that it have taken such a long time to answer your question. I’ve really tried to find an answer but without success. I hope a visitor from Belgium will come and explain for us both what it means to be a Free Student.

Will you be able to use your study year when you come back? Swedish exchange students do not count an exchange year which means that their exchange year is kind of free. :) What I mean is that a free student might be a student that doesn’t have to take all the required classes and so on because the year doesn’t “count” anyway.

hey
i hope i can help you next year i’m going to be exchange student in the usa . Now I’m still living in Belgium But in the Flanders. I searched on google and a free student ( or vrije student in flemish) means a student who studies on a university or a college ( i think you called in English but in Flemish it’s “hoge school” that’s a little more practical) . Okay a free student means that you can take lessons but can’t get a diploma. But wich university do you want to go to ?

Seppe

I'm sorry..
